What virtual medical simulation is
Virtual medical simulation replaces or supplements physical skills labs with a three-dimensional clinical environment. A student puts on a headset, or opens the desktop software, and works through a procedure exactly as they would on the ward: positioning a patient, choosing exposure settings, responding to a deteriorating patient or exploring anatomy layer by layer.
Because nothing is consumed and nobody is put at risk, a session can be repeated until the technique is right. Every attempt is recorded, so an instructor can see what the student did and where they went wrong.
What the platform includes
Davak Medical VR is a complete teaching system, not only a headset application.
- Immersive simulations for radiography, nursing, anatomy and medicine and surgery
- Multi-user sessions with live instructor guidance, and the ability to pause, annotate and replay
- A web platform where instructors set quizzes, tasks and courses for their students
- Results for every simulation session, including the captured image and the settings the student used
- Institution licences with a seat per student, and a complimentary licence for every educator
- A PC version for practice without a headset
Designed for the realities of African institutions
Most simulation software assumes fast internet and a large equipment budget. Davak Medical VR was designed for institutions that have neither. Standalone headsets run without cables or a connected PC, desktop modes allow practice at home without internet, and deployment can be hybrid so that rural and urban centres use the same curriculum.
- Offline access: desktop modes for practice at home without internet
- Scalable: hybrid deployment models for rural and urban centres
- Runs on Meta Quest 3, Pico 4 Enterprise and Vive XR headsets
Common questions
- What is virtual medical simulation software?
- It is software that recreates clinical procedures and patients in a three-dimensional environment, so students can practise repeatedly and safely before working with real patients. Davak Medical VR covers radiography, nursing, anatomy and medicine and surgery.
- Does it need an internet connection?
- Standalone VR headsets run the simulations without cables or a connected PC, and desktop modes allow practice without internet. A connection is used to sync results, quizzes and tasks with the web platform.
- Which headsets does Davak Medical VR support?
- The simulations are optimised for Meta Quest 3, Pico 4 Enterprise and Vive XR headsets. A PC version is available for institutions and students without headsets.
